Thanks to Scomo and his shitty submarines, if we’ve ever needed to strengthen ties between Australia and France – it’s now. And who better to get that bond started than So French So Chic teaming up with Alice Ivy, Montaigne, Ali Barter, Ainslie Wills and Nadeah.
The first EP of a series, “Yé-Yé 2.0” features French-pop covers of iconic tracks, inspired by the Yé-Yé movement of the 60s. You can catch vibrant renditions of “Mon Amie La Rose” (“My Friend the Rose”), “À Demain My Darling” (best known as “The Sha La La Song” by Marianne Faithfull), “Une Jeune Homme Bien” (best known as “A Well-Respected Man” by The Kinks) as well as “Ces Bottes Sont Faites Pour Marcher” (“These Boots Were Made for Walking”). All of which are produced by the ARIA-nominated electronic musician Alice Ivy and are guaranteed to give you a rush of romance and elegance.
The other EP’s in this series will be released over the next six months and will all feature a diverse selection of very talented Australian women. It’s the current project of Jean-Francois Ponthieux aka. So French So Chic, a French-Australian who has been at the fore-front of a bouquet of projects with the aim of sharing French culture with Australians and materialise the dreams of French musicians who live here.
You can’t travel to France yet, so let So French So Chic take you there (with your fave Aussie vocalists packed into your carry on). Plus, French music just feels classy to listen to.
